We’ve seen it happen before.

A device hits the market with little regulation, no randomized trials, and minimal scrutiny—then suddenly, we’re left scrambling when complications surface. Instead of being frustrated when things go wrong, we should see it as a wake-up call. A call to action to set higher standards before someone else does it for us.

The difference between a breakthrough and a liability? Evidence. Drug-coated balloons are considered incredibly safe—not by chance, but because they were required to go through rigorous trials. Meanwhile, other technologies slip through easier regulatory pathways, leaving us with unanswered questions and unexpected consequences.
